چکیده

We propose a modular multilevel converter (MMC) based three-phase four-wire (3P4W) split capacitor distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM), aiming at compensating unbalanced and reactive load currents. Due to the zero-sequence current compensation, circulating characteristics of 3P4W MMC-DSTATCOM are different from conventional MMCs. Moreover, distinct working principle MMC would affect features voltage. The decoupled positive-, negative- second-order DC components deduced explicitly. Two proportional-integral controllers with dual dq transformation employed suppress positive- negative-sequence current, while quasi proportional-resonance controller is designed eliminate component. Besides, phenomenon voltages revealed, fast-tracking balancing method by controlling flowing through capacitors provided. Digital simulation results verify accuracy analysis feasibility suppression methods.

Capacitor Voltage Monitoring in Modular Multilevel Converter

A Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is an attractive solution for power conversion without transformers. As MMC consists of cascade connections and floating dc capacitors, it requires continuous voltage monitoring. An adaptive observer design has been presented to estimate the capacitor voltages from the measurement of arm currents. This work introduces a capacitance value of the cell capacito...

Flying capacitor multilevel PWM converter based UPFC

A unified power flow controller (UPFC) based on the flying capacitor (FC) multilevel voltage-source converter (VSC) topology with phase-shifted sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (PWM) control is presented. This converter allows higher power handling, potentially lower power loss, lower harmonic distortion and hence less filtering requirements when compared with the typical two-level counterppar...

Trade-Off Strategies in Designing Capacitor Voltage Balancing Schemes for Modular Multilevel Converter HVDC

This paper focuses on the engineering trade-offs in designing capacitor voltage balancing schemes for modular multilevel converters (MMC) HVDC: regulation performance and switching loss. MMC is driven by the on/off switch operation of numerous submodules and the key design concern is balancing submodule capacitor voltages minimizing switching transition among submodules because it represents th...

Simplified model and submodule capacitor voltage balancing of single-phase AC/AC modular multilevel converter for railway traction purpose

A single-phase AC/AC modular multilevel converter (MMC) can interact directly with 25 kV railway grid without a bulky 50 Hz step-down transformer. This brings in great savings in size and cost. Submodule (SM) voltage balancing of this kind of MMCs remains a major technique issue. This study proposes a voltage-balancing solution for this scenario which consists of intraand inter-arm voltage bala...

Natural Capacitor Voltage Balance in Multilevel Flying Capacitor Convertrs. a Review of Research Achievements*

The flying-capacitor (FC) topology is one of the more well-established ideas of multilevel conversion, typically applied as an inverter. One of the biggest advantages of the FC converter is the ability to naturally balance capacitor voltage. When natural balancing occurs neither measurements, nor additional control is needed to maintain required capacitors voltage sharing. However, in order to ...
